Ronen Sharabani, 1974, Israel

"No one can fully control their reality, but we can all have our own opinion about what is happening", says Ronen Sharabani.

He presents us with sculptures that each measure 1.2 cubic metres. Through holes, we can see inside the cubes, where video works are shown. The artists wants us to ask ourselves how much of our reality is based on truths that we can stand for.

Sharabani’s homeland is at war and daily life is fraught with risk for everyone. The flow of media is expansive, as are interpretations of what comprises reliable information. Each cube can be a shelter for one person, but if weapons are directed inwards, the shelter is transformed into a trap. The artist contends that peace requires interplay between the local and the global.
